Business is Code

The capability threshold has been crossed. AI performs knowledge work at expert level, and business logic is now executable: $.Claim.received triggers $.Claim.adjudicated. Services become software that runs continuously, scales without headcount, and never needs a meeting.

Infrastructure-as-Code made infrastructure programmable and created the $3 trillion SaaS economy. Business-as-Code makes business operations programmable and creates the $100 trillion autonomous service economy. What Infrastructure-as-Code did for computing, Business-as-Code does for services.

Everything Compiles from Open Standards

An autonomous business is not prompted into existence. It is compiled — up a ladder with five rungs:

  1. Seeds. Every entity in the economy starts as a row of a published open standard — NAICS, O*NET, UNSPSC, APQC, GS1 — ingested verbatim and never touched by a model.
  2. Canon. The standards enrich into a canonical, machine-readable knowledge layer, open to every agent that can dereference a URL. Enriched is canonical; the standards are seeds, not ceilings.
  3. Engines. Open, unbranded machinery — functions, workflows, database, API and directory builders — compiles knowledge into working software.
  4. Businesses. Engines mint branded businesses: vertical APIs, headless SaaS, agentic services, artifact doors. Each managed service in the runtime is itself a business running on this stack — dogfooding is structural.
  5. Work. Tenants run real work on those businesses: invocations, records, deliverables. This layer is operated, never generated.

The moat is the whole ladder. Anyone can call a model; compiling open standards into running businesses takes the stack.

Everything is a Semantic Function

One idea unifies the engine layer: database operations, AI generation, event processing, workflows — all are functions with semantic meaning, expressed as $.Subject.predicate.Object. The same function is callable through SDK, CLI, MCP, or HTTP. Write the business logic once; it executes through every protocol.

Agents are the Customers

The next billion users of software are agents, and agents don't browse — they resolve. They ask for a capability and expect a graded, live, payable answer. So the machine is built agent-first: every SaaS category rebuilt without the UI, one canonical API per vertical, and a directory that answers capability queries with endpoints instead of listicles.

Humans Stay in the Loop

Autonomy does not mean unaccountable. Behind every agent stands a credentialed bench — adjusters, attorneys, physicians, engineers — selling escalations, review, and signatures, not seats. A machine grade and a human credential are the same object: a signed, public, replayable attestation of capability. The judgment call escalates; the artifact ships signed.

Startups Graduate

The machine mints startups from the canon, by the tens of thousands. The best of them graduate to founders; the strongest are operated. One founder with this stack runs what used to take hundreds — the 1-person unicorn is an output of the architecture, not a slogan.
